Who: Everyone and everyone!
What: A party to break everyone into mallowhallow and get them mingling
Where: Orlea
When: March 4th

[ you might have gotten a nice little text message in your communication device, telling you to come party in Orlea. There's all types of alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks, and a mixture of foods to snack on. the music is also pulsing and loud enough to get you wanting to dance.

the party will go on all night till the morning, so bring a date or just bring yourself ]

[He laughs softly and shakes his head.]

Definitely not what I'm used to, but in a good way.

You know if it gets to be too much, you can just step out for a minute. Go somewhere quiet until you feel better.

[He shrugs a little and smiles.]

No, I'm fine. I'm sure I'll get used to it in no time.

_{[He smiles and sips at whatever's in that cup.]}

You having fun, at least?

Just letting you know. [Just in case. He's being a good host, making sure everyone's comfortable.

Except he's totally not going to say a word about the punch. Nope. Everyone will have to discover on their own that it's spiked.]

Yeah, of course I am. I live to party. Besides, it's better than sitting around contemplating the fact that we've all been kidnapped. [Why do that when you can have fun instead?]

_{[Oh, no, Balfour already figured out the punch. It didn't taste quite right, nor smell quite right, but he's moved on to better things by now. Sip sip~]}

I'm...glad Tyler invited me. It's definitely a nice change from what I'm used to doing at home, you know?

_{[He's not talking about the kidnapped thing, nope. He'd rather not think about that. He knows that no one is going to pay ransom, after all. Not for him. He's stuck here, so he might as well make himself at home.]}

[Smart boy.

Reid shrugs and smiles.] We're glad to have you here.

So what're the parties like for you back home? [That's an okay topic, right? It's not going to lead to Reid having screwed up things again, is it? Seems safe enough to him.]

_{[He laughs and shakes his head, turning to get a good scope of the room.]}

There would be minglers along the wall, mostly older ladies trying to catch a glimpse of the young men their daughters are dancing with.

_{[He gestures to a wall, then glances to the side.]}

The balcony, that's where people go to get air and privacy. Down in the gardens, depending on the house, is a very favorable trysting spot.

_{[He knows this through the other Airmen and by walking in on someone, that poor soul. He still feels badly for that.]}

There would be dancing couples, but it would be only men with women, usually the women being slightly younger unless she was rich, and it's...mostly ballroom dancing, each man doing his best to make himself look good to the girls and their mothers. There are always those who linger by the food, chattering away, and there are some who stand in corners in small groups of their friends, trying to stay out of the way.

And then there are always troublemakers.

[He takes a moment to construct that image in his head, to put together all of the pieces. Yeah, it sounds...fancy. And boring. Did he mention boring?]

Sounds stuffy.

[There is one thing in all of that which sounds slightly less boring though.]

Ballroom dancing? [Ah, there's that teasing smile again.] So you know how to do that?

Also very boring and absolute torture for someone like me.

_{[You can probably imagine why, Reid.]}

Yes, I do. I'm quite good at it, too, if I may say so myself. Certainly better than doing this kind of dancing, after all.

_{[He looks embarrassed to even be bragging about that, though.]}

I bet it is. [Yeah, he can.

He laughs, then takes a few more long swallows from his beer before setting it aside and holding out his hands.]

How about you show me? [Don't do it, Balfour. Reid will step all over your feet. He's a swimmer, not a dancer.]

Very well then.

_{[He smiles and downs the rest of whatever's in that cup, puts it down on a table, and reaches out to place one hand on Reid's lower back, the other grabbing his free hand.

Sorry Reid, but he's leading.]}

And then you just step like this.

[And he's off, moving gracefully and spinning Reid gently, their bodies maybe a little too close but Balfour really didn't give a flying fuck. He was having fun!]

[Balfour, if you weren't leading, this dancing thing would go nowhere because Reid has absolutely no idea what he's doing. Holding a girl close and moving to the music without moving his feet? Yeah, he can do that. But this? This is a whole lot of what the hell is he supposed to do. Seeing this in movies on television and actually doing it is so vastly different.

He grins though, and settles his other hand on Balfour's shoulder-that's what he's supposed to do with it, right? Either way at least that makes it harder for wandering hands to happen. Yeah, it's safer like this.]

You make it sound easy!

[While he's just trying not to step on Balfour's feet. So far he's succeeding, but, well, we'll see how long that lasts.]

It is. This is one of the simplest dances. I'll slow down a bit though.

[He does just that, slows and makes each step pronounced, not once looking at his feet.]

I've been doing this all my life.

[That helps, it really does. He just needs to get the hang of where to move his feet-and there he goes, stepping on Balfour's foot for the first time. He quickly readjusts his foot placement though, so it's not quite so bad.]

Sorry. [Remember this moment forever-he might not actually flat out apologize again like this for a long time. He glances down a little, then back up.]

I can tell you have.

Don't worry about it. I'm sure I've done worse to my teacher.

[He laughed softly. There was a time where he was the clumsiest kid in the class. Then again, the class consisted of him and his brother.]

You're doing well.

Thanks.

[He smiles. Really, he's trying not to keep looking down, but every now and then he can't help it-he just wants to be sure he's still doing this right, and you know, embarrass himself as little as possible.]

I learn quick. [When he actually tries, and cares enough.

Subtly, or at least he's pretty sure it's subtle, he moves just a little closer to Balfour. Just a little. It can't hurt, right?]

[Balfour either doesn't notice or doesn't care when Reid scoots closer. In fact, he draws him just a little closer anyway with the hand on his waist.]

I can teach you. I'm sure it's a life skill that you could use. And it's easier to charm a girl if you're already sweeping her off her feet.

[He laughs softly.]

[That works out well then, because Reid's ulterior motive here this whole time has been to get closer.]

It'll probably take a while before I'm actually any good at this. [And, you know, just not managing to not step on Balfour's feet most of the time. But he also wouldn't mind how long that would take.] They'd definitely be impressed though. [He grins. Because it'd be a completely different tact than...what he usually does.]

I don't mind. I'm a patient teacher.

[He smiles and continues, picking up the pace just a bit.]

Good.

[He smiled, doing his best to keep up still. It really wasn't that hard if he didn't think about it too much, but he still felt a little awkward.]

So. You have stuffy parties and you fly dragons, but what do you actually do for fun?

I read.

_{[And not much else, especially lately. There wasn't much time for him to do any real leisurely activities.]}

And dancing isn't so bad when it's not a woman pawing all over me.

Reading, that's...nice.

[That...wasn't really what Reid would consider fun, but to each their own.]

Better when you're dancing with someone like me? [He was even behaving himself-miracle of miracles. For now, at least.]

[He gives a teasing smile, wondering to himself if it was better because Reid was a guy or because he was…Reid. Honestly, he wasn't sure.]

Either way it's nice to see you more...relaxed.

[And not all tense and like a kicked puppy or something, like when they'd first met.]

_{[As far as society goes, he's seen the dregs of even the upper class.]}

They're not very tolerant of people like me in my world. Unless you have the money and the Talent to shut them up and just don't care...

_{[He sighed, pressing his forehead to Reid's, pulling him even closer, smiling.]}
