[An odd expression flits over Chataya's face at the mention of the Queen, but all she offers up is:]

I wouldn't be so sure. I've found that people can be made to believe anything.

[Porrim looks troubled by that idea, and toys with her lip piercing contemplatively.]

That's what worries me.

Then I think you're a great deal wiser than many of the other people here.

I try to be wise. Sometimes I just feel a bit silly.

[She tips her head to one side, considering.]

Well, if it's any consolation, I don't find you silly at all.

Still, you can't expect anyone to believe something of you unless you believe it yourself. You have to fully commit to whatever it is you're trying to convince people of.

[She ought to know - playing roles was her entire job, back home.]

[Porrim smiles, takes a sip from the flask she's got strapped to her hip.]

I suppose you're right. Confidence isn't something I usually lack, but...we all have our moments.

[The flask brings an odd sort of smile to Chataya's face, and she nods.]

Indeed. Even those of us trained not to.

Trained?

[She cocks her head, curious.]

Ah, yes. Back on my home world, I was employed by a brothel. There was extensive training involved - things like being confident, taking on different roles - so those are the things that I'm used to.

[This is all delivered without hesitation - she has no qualms about talking about what she does.]

[She's a little bit startled by how easily Porrim accepts what she does - that's not the usual reaction.]

[She notices Chataya's surprise, and smiles.]

That sort of thing doesn't bother me at all. Actually, I'm very interested in it.

[It's Chataya's turn to cock her head curiously.]

Interested? In what way?

[genitrix]

[Porrim regards Chataya with blank eyes, a steady gaze.]

I think sex is always interesting, whether or not there's emotion attached to it. It's different for everyone.

[She considers this for a moment. She's not sure she'd ever have touched upon "interesting" as the best way of describing her job, but...it fits well enough. She likes the sex, sure enough, but oftentimes the information and the power she gets out of it are more valuable. So, after a moment, she nods slowly.]

Yes, I can see that. I suppose it's as good a reason as any.

[She folds her hands, deceptively demure, in front of her. She realizes she's probably not being as sensitive to the situation as she should be.]

My apologies. It's problematic of me to make assumptions regarding your career as a sex worker. I should be more sensitive to your thoughts on the idea, regardless of my own interest.

[She finds herself suddenly missing Kankri. Kind of.]

[She can't help but laugh at the sudden change in Porrim's demeanor - not a cruel laugh, but one that's been startled out of her.]

Oh, you needn't ever worry about offending me, dear. I have no qualms about what I do, nor do I mind discussing it. My hesitation was only because I'd never thought of it that way.

[genitrix]

[Porrim relaxes, laughing a little and feeling a bit silly.]

Good. I'd hate to offend the first new friend I make in this place.

[She smiles a little - friends are hard for her, and she's really only had a couple over the course of her life, but she thinks Porrim will work out. Chataya prides herself on being able to read people, and the relationship she feels building between them feels much like the ones she had with her few friends back home.]

For me, the sex was...well, enjoyable, at least - mostly. There are always those few customers with whom it is not, but for the most part, a good experience. But I always thought the other bits were the most interesting - the conversations, the way different customers approach you, the different relationships you can form.

[She pauses for a moment, then grins.]

[Her grin widens to the point where most of her rather sharp teeth are visible. Chataya, you just mentioned one of her favorite things in the world.]

Gossip is something I rather delight in. I can see how that would be a perk to your job.

[Chataya grins as well - not put off at all by those sharp teeth (she used to service a vampire, after all, with teeth like a shark) - and leans in conspiratorially.]

The things people will tell you - you wouldn't believe it. And all you have to do is make them feel good.

[She tilts her head, the better to hear the other woman over the music, and chuckles low in her throat.]

I can imagine. It's such an intimate situation...it can be difficult to be private once you've shared yourself that way.

[She wrinkles her nose a little, shaking her head.]

Not for me.

[genitrix]

[She giggles. The wrinkled nose is cute.]
