[ Once everyone’s settled in their particular districts, no doubt thousands of questions running between each individual mind, there’s an announcement. Not over the devices, but rather in speakers all over each and every district. A familiar voice should ring out—you did, after all, hear the voice of your Queen earlier today. ]

Ahem! Can you hear me? Ah, right then.

Hello loveies! You might recall this particular visage which speaks before you—that is, I am your Queen. Call me Queenie, if you must! I’ve met you all on this particular day, and I find it important to bestow some of my boundless knowledge onto you, sweethearts.

Now! Done with formalities, let’s see where we stand… ah, yes! Might I be the first to welcome you all to Mallow Hallow, our wonderful little country. Not too big, not quite too small either! It’s just lovely, isn’t it? Oh, how all my new babies will love it here! Or—perhaps not. [ She clicks her tongue. ] Either way, it doesn't really matter. You're stuck here for the time, so do try to make the most of it, dears.

Of course, there are our sectors within Mallow Hallow. Six… [ There’s silence for a short moment. ] Yes, there are six, aren’t there..? Well, six different communities you might stem off from! Surely you remember the name from our meeting earlier? If not, I’m sure one of the regular inhabitants of each particular district will assist you in naming your new home!

Live where you’d like, eat what you’d like, do what you’d like! Our homes are now your homes, so please, consider us all a big happy family to you! Remember you can reach me or any of the other rulers of any of the districts, over at our voicemails! [ Somehow, that seems sarcastic… ]

Also, don’t cause any trouble, or I’ll personally end you. [ There it is. ]

[It troubles her, how quickly Sayaka dismisses her own merits, assumes she has no worth if she isn't fighting for others, but she can't say that outright either. She looks quietly disappointed, but she doesn't comment on why.]

...Right. [...] Y'know, they dumped us here, but they didn't give us anything to eat or a place to stay. And I can't sense any witches anywhere...

[No witches meant no Grief Seeds, and that was a huge problem.]

[The sight didn't go unnoticed, but Jim decided that now wasn't the time to comment on it. Instead, he listened carefully as Oliver spoke, slightly adjusting the weight of Karen on his back as the pair - trio? - walked calmly through the streets. It was only fair to listen; the kid had listened to Jim, and who would Jim be to deny the same courtesy? Besides, he was curious.]

Sounds like a complicated process there, Oliver. [He wasn't quite sure he really understood any of it; then again, it'd be like showing someone Duel Monsters the first time - it takes time.] While it sounds like a competition, the fact that you sound like you're still on their roster is a good thing. Sure, you might not be the top idol but who says you won't make it there one day? Besides, the more you work at it, the better you'll get. [Cue sheepish laughter.] Or so I'm told.

[He's not completely sure if his words would be comforting to his new friend - despite a bond forming, he knew little of what would sadden the child or what would make him happy. Shrugging to himself, Jim reached over, and going with a gut feeling, ruffled Oliver's hair carefully, gently.]

I've got faith in you, though. You'll do fine, if that's what's worrying ya, mate.

Yeah, I've been wondering about that...

[ The topic change prevents her from registering Kyouko's expression, and she looks thoughtful. Housing didn't seem like a huge issue (there had to be some somewhere), but witches... ]

... But it's probably for the best, right? If there's no witches, then everyone here's gonna be a lot safer. We can still help out in other ways. [ Those other ways don't give grief seeds. ]

[At this, Kyouko shakes her head. How could she explain this without freaking Sayaka out?]

It might be best for everyone else, but not us. The Grief Seeds are really important.

Ah, yeah. Mami-san mentioned something like that...

[ But it was vague, to say the least. All she knows is that witches drop them, and that it helps clear their soul gem. ]

We'll just have to be careful with our magic. Our job is to protect people from witches, so I'm not gonna get annoyed if there aren't any.

[He's not a wuss, she's just rude. He's a wuss, because he's not going to say that out loud. He reaches into the pouch at his back and pulls out what looks like a piece of glass with moving pictures to him and a phone to any sane modern person.]

...Yeah, so what if I don't? It doesn't mean anything. [Huff.] What's it supposed to do?

You don't get it. [She still didn't get it. Everything that had gone on, and it would repeat itself. It was too much.

And the worst part was, Kyouko couldn't tell her either. Not in the ways she wanted to.] While you're here, don't use your magic unless you have to.

[How could she say this...] If your Soul Gem isn't cleared enough, you'll start to get sick. [That was a start.] It's not just your magic that'll get weaker. It's...your body will too. So just be careful, okay? I don't want anyone to get hurt.

It's that important?

[ She actually does look a little worried. Until now, she had been under the impression that grief seeds served mostly to enhance their magic supply; the thought of it meaning more than that is troubling. ]

... I'll try not to use too much magic. [ Which is about the best she can promise — she won't hold back if it's at the expense of helping someone. ] We should talk to the guys in charge. Maybe if we explain, they'll help us think of something. We could go back home, or somewhere else with witches, and build up a supply.

[ Wow some friend you are Ries. ]

Would you like me to prove it? Since you seem to be wary of my word.

[It's not exactly the response she'd wanted, but she'll accept it, for now. Sayaka being more cautious would buy her more time. Not much, but...]

Yeah. Maybe we should. [Going home wasn't an option, but—] If they brought us here, they've gotta have a way to help us out.

Okay, that's it. You almost got me, but you're definitely making this up. [This girl was not all there, Kyouko had decided.] This is a waste of my time...I'm gonna go find somethin' to eat.

[Wuss or not, Kyouko is certainly rude.] You use it to contact people. You're pretty hopeless, y'know. How are you gonna survive if you don't know stuff like this?

[She taps a few buttons on the screen, and shows him the network.] See? These are people who are lost like us. It must be connected to some kinda mass network.

[Her eyes darken at that, but she gives no other response — she simply walks away, hands stuffed in the pockets of her hoodie.]

[Light returns the salute with a clear smile of approval. This plan is far from fool-proof. Any number of inconvenient issues could crop up. There's a clause in the death note that says it will only work on humans, and the people who have been gathered here are not all human. The Queen herself may not be human, which would mean that he will need to formulate an alternate plan.]

As soon as you can would be best, before anyone [L] realizes we're gone from our world.

[Urgency, he realizes, is something Misa seems to have difficultly comprehending at times, given her obsession with romantic ideals and fantasies. He tries to impress the seriousness of this request without being oppressive about it, but that would change quickly if she wasn't going to take the hint to contact the Queen immediately.]

The role that Personas and Shadows play in people's lives is what I was curious about. From what I gather, it sounds like they're exceptional cases?

[Deviations from the norm, whatever the norm happens to be in Pharos's world.]

It's a good plan. [ She has to compliment her own planning skills, because nobody else ever will. ] Maybe Kyuubey will show up, too. We could always ask him for help.

[ Yeah okay she has a one good plan per day limit. ]

If it's just for talking to people, then it has nothing to do with survival! I'm an expert when it comes to surviving, so there's nothing to worry about!

[Yeah, he's a bit offended. He's not really going to pay much attention.] So it just shows us whatever everyone else is up to? Isn't that really...invasive?

Shadows only come out during the Dark Hour, and they usually prey on anyone who isn't Transmogrified. A few people can stay awake during the Dark Hour, and usually those are the people who have Personas and can fight Shadows.

[As pharaoh, Atem had a keen sense for knowing when to speak up and when to play the part of the quiet observer and more often than not it was the later. Perhaps that was why that had gotten along so well. One didn't need to say a lot to understand. Understanding was written in quick glances and small gestures and the sometimes not so small silences. Yuusei seemed to understand that better than anyone.

What he was telling the pharaoh now was that they still had a lot to learn, both about their circumstance as well as each other but that was anything but an omen.]

I have all the time in this world [He smirks at the implication of anything else.] And I think I saw a few restaurants back that way if you like.
