Books Galore [open]

Who: Bro and You!
What: Bro is in need of books to start teaching Doll things, so he's making a trip to the library.
Where: Library in Crystalden
When: June 14th
Warnings: Perhaps a few NSFW factoids, but nothing right now.

Bro had been busy for the last few days, and even though he promised himself to get things for Doll's education, it was only now that he hunted down the library and set his feet into motion to get the necessary books.

He was curious about how Doll could know what a physical was and not what physics is, it was even more intriguing since Doll was made of plastic. That reminded him that he was very behind in his knowledge of plastic doll crafting, and if something hurt Doll he wouldn't know how to take care of the damage like he could with Dave.

So here he is in the library grabbing various books, you can find him in a couple of sections.

Arts and Crafts

Bro might have some very colorful books in his hands on sewing and doll making. Or perhaps he's staring seriously at the shelf.

Children's Non-Fiction

Science, math, language, and more. It's been a long time since Dave was as young as Doll is mentally, so he's a bit confused and open to suggestions on what topics would be good. But he has some general ones already. Something on astronomy, something on counting, some spelling/reading primers, and more.

"How long can I keep these for? How do I get a card?" These questions and more are what Bro's asking the librarians.

After the bit of chaos having settled down from the day before, Kodachi Kuno has also decided to pay a visit to the library; though Crystalden is still overwhelming for the more traditional japanese gymnast. She has an interest in crafts as well, but she's more looking around than actually intending to purchase anything today.

Kodachi's adorn in a catsuit and a bit of metal that apparently passes as armor; upon the left shoulder is an emblem of the highcrest knights and an emblem of a rose just below. She nearly bumps right into Bro (assuming he doesn't step out of the way) when she abruptly turns the corner to enter the crafts section.

"Oh!"

Bro's pretty deep into the book he's looking at, so he doesn't move like he normally would. When he feels a presence enter his normally person-free zone, he abruptly snaps out of the book and turns towards the person.

A skin-tight cat suit and metal pieces that seemed more like jewelry to him than any form of armor.

He raises an eyebrow from behind his anime shades and takes a step back, thinking she probably wanted to look at the shelf he was standing in front of.

Kodachi seems a little surprised at first, those are certainly some unique sunglasses! Still, it's impossible to confuse Bro for a citizen of Crystalden since they are even more absurdly unique in appearance.

"Forgive me, I wasn't paying attention." she murmurs with a small smile and a polite bow. Kodachi's then about to go along her merry way until she notices the items on hand, and her interest is piqued. "How interesting! Are you interested in crafting doll-"

She cuts herself off, suddenly realizing that she recognizes him, and her smile fades.

Bro looks over at her. "I make plush dolls, but I'm looking into plastics to help a friend if he gets hurt."

He raises an eyebrow again.

"Hmmn.. I didn't realize these sorts of things are used in your profession." Kodachi doesn't seem to be as impressed; though why that's the case will become clear soon enough.

She raises a hand to her cheek, which she taps with her pointer finger. "If I remember correctly you're the young man that recently opened a pornography studio, are you not?"

"Niche porn can use this kind of thing," Bro said. No shame at all, he honestly got over the stigma ages ago. "It's a safe business venture. Intelligent species have the basic instinct for reproduction, though we, as intelligent beings, are blessed with the ability to find pleasure from the act. There will never be a day when the sex industry doesn't sale."

Kodachi crosses her arms as she listens to Bro, and as he speaks her cheeks just get a little bit darker. She has no problem speaking shamelessly to someone she's infatuated with, but such things with strangers.. It's embarrassing!

And yet she can't help but be a little impressed.

"Hmph.. I suppose when you put it that way, it is a rather.. Sound business decision. Mmngh.." she raises her hand to her cheek then, still a touch flustered and not seeming to really want to back down. "You certainly are well spoken, aren't you? I am Kodachi Kuno, of the Rose Order."

Bro gives a small bow. "Bro Strider of Houston," he winks. "I'm not familiar with The Rose Order, what do you do?"

And again Kodachi is just.. Taken aback by his charm. He's pretty good! She ends up returning the bow with a slightly surprised expression, then ends up smiling a little once more. "'Houston'; is that so. My job is simply to keep order with the denizens of Mallow. So far it isn't as difficult as I had originally inspected."

"Otherwise I simply assist in matters with Highcrest; they tend to be such boring tasks. I have found the portal troubles to be an endless source of entertainment, though. Yourself, Mister Strider?"

"I'm simply living a normal life as well as I can, starting entrepreneurial pursuits and making friends," he said. He's rather laid back about this whole new world thing.

"What sorts of portal troubles," he asked. Because he doesn't keep up with the news and with his suburb ninja and sword skills, he wasn't panicking about monsters or anything.

Damn it, Bro, Kodachi is trying to dislike you, stop making it so difficult! This conversation isn't going where she expected in any way, but it looks like this is a good thing, right? "I see.. A quiet life of my own is simply something that I can deal with in moderation; at least until I wed my beloved."

"Ah? Have you not heard? Apparently someone interfered with the portals in some way and as a result, instead of dropping off denizens, it has been consistantly been dropping off troublesome beasts and artifacts. I was stationed at one of the media builings here yesterday to assist in getting rid of a few actually."

"As far as I know it has yet to be resolved so I urge you to stay alert."

"For as young as you, I am surprised you have already found that perfect person. You must be very lucky," Bro said. He never found his, only Cal.

"So that's why there has been an increase in hostile beasts," he said. "It hasn't been problematic for me, my sword skills have not diminished in the least. You be sure to take care of yourself."

Kodachi raises her fingertips to her lips as she giggles. "Oh well, it's more like they find me, really. It's a teensy bit complicated, but the short of it is that I am prepared to wed the winner. But, yes, I possess rather good fortune."

She nods in agreement with his assessment, but then quirks a brow in curiosity. "I shall, thank you. Though.. Did you just sword skills? Are you one of those 'street samurai'? Do you come from asian ancestry?"

He doesn't understand what she means by wed the winner, but decides it's best not to ask. Nope, just find other things to talk about.

"I prefer the term 'roof-top ninja'," he gives an amused grin. "And no Asian ancestry in me, as far as I know, just found that I'm good with a katana and have the speed and skills to pull off ninjitsu."

Bro was wise not to ask; but it is probably inevitable that he'll find out that Kodachi has a.. 'special' lifestyle.

That said, she looks very impressed by his claims, "Is that so! I must admit you don't look the part- But it's good to know that you can take care of yourself, and apparently a natural."

"I would be interested in seeing you in action sometime. Preferably outside of your place of work, of course. I have been trained very little in the ninja arts; my preferred style of combat is gymnastics."

"Gymnastics? As a combat art?" Bro asked, he tilted his head in that universal curious way. "I developed my form for urban environments, so it's useful in crowded, small spaces, or in wide open but multi-leveled structures."

"You've never heard of it?" Kodachi asks, seeming surprised, "I suppose it isn't as common as most styles, really. But yes, it is a combination of martial arts and rhythmic gymnastics. I come from Nerima, where all sorts of unique martial arts styles can be found."

"However I've made changes of my own to become a proper knight." Kodachi reaches behind her and withdraws a traditional looking sword- at least by appearance. She twirls her arm and the blade extends into multiple triangles to snap about like a whip, then neatly retracts.

[Doll came around an aisle to find bro, after having been gone awhile looking for books on its own. The big toy quickly set down the prized little selection on the shelf so that it could show them off: a book on ballet, a couple fashion magazines, a guide to taking care of domestic housecats (as though such a thing would likely apply to Puppy in the first place; the plush surely needed neither litter box nor checkups from a veterinarian! If Doll didn't, why would a magically-animate plush?) a cookbook for desserts (as though Doll, with no mouth, hadn't learned anything from the adventures in making cookies, or having gotten Bro to help it open a package of some other candy or snack, only to have to figure out about that lack of mouth yet again... and again... and agai-- all right, so maybe Doll hadn't truly learned yet) and last but not least, and certainly the most immediately practical of this little collection, a fairly sizable sign language dictionary.

Doll looked quite proud, actually, grinning to Bro while holding each of the volumes up, all excited, finally looking to him after showing them off, hands held loosely together, clasped, as though asking, please please please.

Bro's approval was clearly important, here. ♥]

[Bro looked up from the book Japanese writing to see the books that Doll had gathered. He's glad to see that there is a wide variety and that they're not all taken from one section. He's also surprised and happy that Doll found a sign language book]

Good work, Doll. [he smiles] Looks like we'll have a lot of stuff to learn.

[hmm Doll liked dancing and seemed to enjoy other arts. He picks up all the books, no problem for him] Have you ever read a play?

[Doll's grin widened as Bro gave his verdict... and with the question that followed, peeked over to see what Bro was talking about, shaking that head a bit. No, hadn't read a play.

Had seen a few, if videos done in the Theater counted; those were acting, weren't they? But not read any.]

[he grinned] Then let's find some plays for you to try. [he led Doll around a few aisles until he spotted a familiar name of a playwright. Of course since this was the children's section these plays were edited to make sense to children. There were also fables and fairy tales re-written for children's plays]

Why don't you pick out a couple of these that sound interesting to you. [he pointed at the shelf, after making sure that they were all plays]
